The Festival of the Islands is an annual community event that celebrates island living and presents 9 nights of musical acts on the waterfront stage, featuring some of Canada's best new performers. Each night is opened by the world class Gananoque skydivers, landing in front of the waterfront stage.

Festival of the Islands is accepting applications for:

Assistant Event Coordinator - Intern

The intern will be responsible for assisting in the implemation of the marketing and logistic plans for the 2008 Festival of the Islands.

Working under the guidance of the coordinators of the Festival of the Islands the intern will also provide administrative support to the day to day operation of the Festival of the Islands.

The Intern will receive hands on experience in the aspects of sponsor reations, event management and, working with a budget set by the Festival of the Islands Board of Directors.

Knowledge of event planning and computer programs such as Word, Photoshop and Excel are considered assets.

To fulfill employment grant obligations the candidate must be a graduate of a post secondary program and between the ages of 20 to 30.

Remuneration

This is a 35-hour a week position for 35 weeks with a salary of $425.00 per week.

 The daytime activities at the Festival of the Islands include a number of children's and family activities in the Town Hall Park with theatrical presentations, a baby show, mini golf, a dog show, clowns and interactive musical presentations.

Early on weekday mornings shuttle boats transport Festival goers to McDonald Island, in the St. Lawrence River, for a traditional 1000 Islands Shore Breakfast. Breakfast and coffee are cooked outdoors by a battalion of 50 volunteers.

Community participation is encouraged in the hilarious Belly Flop Contest with both corporate and family teams, a Mini Poker Run for boats with motors under 10 hp, and the Soapbox Derby. We also host a Rock 'n' Roll Classic car show in the Town Hall Park. The Festival Idol of the Islands showcases the talents of a wide range of performers.

We are delighted to announce several new events including a major Antique & Classic Boat Show and lots of new events and activities at the Town Hall Park.

 The Festival also presents a young duffer's golf tournament, an adult Golf Tournament, the Rotary Craft Sale, an Island Treasure Hunt, and the all new Gan's Got Talent open mike in the new giant tent at Town Hall Park. The largest Model Railroad Show in the 1000 Islands (and perhaps this side of Canada) and a Woodcarving Exhibition and sale in the recreation centre.

On the last Saturday evening, the Festival comes to an unforgettable finale, as a world-class fireworks musical extravaganza is presented from a barge in the St. Lawrence River.
